Jute sling bags — eco-friendly, lightweight, handcrafted
Jute is one of India's oldest and most sustainable fibres, grown largely in Bengal and Assam, biodegradable, and naturally strong. PRD Craft jute sling bags take that traditional material and give it a contemporary shape — compact crossbody bags you can wear daily, made without plastic-heavy synthetics.
Why jute
Genuinely sustainable. Jute is a fast-growing, rain-fed crop that needs little pesticide and breaks down naturally at end of life.
Surprisingly strong. The fibre has high tensile strength, so a well-stitched jute bag carries daily weight without stretching out of shape.
Breathable and light. Jute weighs less than leather alternatives, which matters on long days and warm Indian afternoons.
Distinctive texture. The natural weave gives every bag a slightly different character and pairs beautifully with both kurtas and casual western wear.
Our jute sling collection
The range includes plain and hand-printed jute slings, jute satchels with faux leather trim, and jute crossbody bags with adjustable straps. Most styles combine a jute body with reinforced faux leather at the corners and strap joints, which is where wear happens first — giving you the look of natural fibre with the durability of a structured bag.
Caring for a jute bag
Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth rather than washing. Avoid soaking the fibre, and air dry away from direct sunlight, which can fade natural jute over time. Store stuffed with tissue or a soft cloth to help the bag hold its shape between uses. Treated this way, a jute sling lasts for years.
Frequently asked questions
Are jute bags waterproof?
No. Jute handles light drizzle but should not be soaked. For monsoon commutes, a faux leather sling is more practical.
Do jute bags smell?
New jute has a faint natural fibre scent that fades within a few days of airing out.
Is jute strong enough for daily use?
Yes. Our jute slings use reinforced stitching and faux leather at stress points, making them suitable for everyday carry.
Are these bags handmade?
Our jute bags are produced in our own Delhi facility with significant hand finishing, including hand-painted and hand-printed designs on selected styles.
